New Season // She & Hem

Victoria & Jo – She & Hem

“We loved shooting our last Sugarhill Boutique post so much, we’ve decided to do another one and woah, what a scorcher it was too. The sunny climate called for up do’s, a trip to the local park, and matching heart sunglasses. What a blooming brilliant way to spend a Saturday morning! As you might be able to tell we both fell for the 1960’s style polkadot print from their new Autumn/Winter collection and couldn’t resist signing on the dotted line and styling it two ways. Both the Hayley Spot Jacquard Skirt* and the Dahlia Spot Dress* are super fun, whilst being so easy to wear, which are both big requirements for any item in the She and Hem wardrobe.”

Meet the brands // Britstitch

What makes something extra special, is it the swanky store you bought it from, a big price tag?! Probably not. Quality and aesthetics? Of course, but we think it’s the story behind you’re beloved items that makes them special, whether it’s outfit you wore on a special birthday, the jewellery you picked up on that amazing vacation or the childhood toy you took everywhere….  It’s the story behind brand ‘Brit-Stitch’ that made us fall in love with their items and we hope you will too!

Back in 1967, craftsman Peter Jones decided to change up his saddlery and harness-making business and start making leather cash bags for local dairies. Soon after, local milkman Toby stopped in to ask if Peter would like his milk delivered. Small business owner Peter couldn’t quite afford Toby’s deliveries but the pair struck up a deal — Toby would deliver milk if Peter could make him one of his cash bags. A perfect trade!

Over time Peter’s business grew from cash bags for dairies to creating industrial leather for a worldwide market. After Peter retired, the next generation stepped in. Similarly to forward thinking Peter back in the 60s, the new additions to the company’s team were eager to explore new ideas and produce new items — they just weren’t sure what!

Peter’s Son Morgan was pondering this very question when they received a call from Toby (the same Toby ‘the milkman’) looking to have the strap fixed on his original bag, the one made in 1967 by Morgan’s father Peter! Morgan and the team were inspired by the endurance of that first bag, and so created their range of ‘Milkman Satchels’ which carry the heritage of that first bag, but with a modern, fresh feel.

We love Brit-Stitch and their wonderful story, and we think we’ll still be loving our bags 45 years from now, just like Toby!

Brit-Stitch says  “All of our bags are lovingly made in Britain, using the finest leathers in a rainbow of colours from this season’s mint green to classic tan brown. Our clever team make sure every single bag is perfect – seamless stitching, beautiful buckles and a clasp that you’ll keep clicking (really, it’s quite addictive). And yes, they smell divine.”
